Well no , you are not going to 'bother wasting breath' because you have nothing to back up your claims on, where as we have plenty of evidence. You are a teenage girl who has been raised amongst slaughter, you are brainwashed and do not think outside the box. Are you even aware how THREATENED our lions are here in SA? Are you aware, or CARE about the canned hunting industry? Or do YOU find it acceptable that our lion (Panthera Leo ) which is a keystone species* IS facing extinction Christine? Or are you just in denial (eyes wide shut!)

Keystone species play a vital role in the way an eco-system functions Christine, did they cover this in your school yet? Without keystone species the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether As the lion is one of those keystone species, if the lion disappears this will have a dramatic effect on Africa's (ours) ecosystem, our economy, our wildlife heritage, our land use, and highten the unemployment problem our country faces (because the MAJORITY of tourists come to see LIVE lions not kill them!) as well as OUR environment) There are many scientific facts and reasons that underline the importance of this issue, after all the African lion is facing extinction unless we act and whilst I could now fill pages on the subject I will simply write some key facts and provide links to various information 

Key facts/information:

in 1975 there were an estimated 250,000 Lions in Africa. 250 THOUSAND! 

In 2014 the numbers of African lions were estimated at 25,000 on the entire African continent, this is a loss of 225,000 lions (with some research now suggesting the figures could be as low as 20-22,000 wild lions remaining )

In South Africa alone it is estimated there are 2,500 lions left in the wild. Do YOU find this acceptable Christine?

The shocking 'canned hunting industry' ( which was originally exposed by investigative reporter Roger Cook in tv's The Cook Report in 1997 ) plays a part in this road to extinction because

Wild lions and their cubs are being stolen and sold within the canned hunting industry because of all the inbreeding which is weakening the gene pool. Do you find this acceptable Christine?

Female lions are forced to breed 2 sometimes 3 times a year where as in the wild they breed every two years. The cubs are then ripped from their mothers within hours of birth, hand raised and used in 'petting zoos' for tourists to have their photo taken with. They are also used for 'walking with lions' activities. When the lions are too big to safely handle they are sold on to game farms to be hunted. Often shot like fish in a barrel. Do you find THIS acceptable Christine?

Adult lions are killed and cubs are stolen to replenish the canned lion gene pool. (whistle-blowers have come forward in Botswana to relate how, using 4 x 4 vehicles, they have chased down wild lion prides to the point of exhaustion, shot the pride adult lions, and captured the cubs for sale to unscrupulous S.A. lion farmers. The captured cubs are smuggled across S.Africa's borders.)

The bones of both poached and 'canned lions' are being used by Asians not as pure so Asians still place a demand on the wild ones in their 'medicines' DO you want this happening to our lions Christine?

Please also note that Nelson Mandela and his government outlawed canned hunting whilst president, but subsequent governments have allowed it to return

It is alleged that many of our South African politicians are profiting from trophy /canned hunting. Think that is fine Christine?

We South Africans must act now and put an end to this! Australia is already looking at banning the import of lion trophies, the majority of the trophy hunters are coming from America however and spending sickening amounts of money to kill lions. They claim it is for conservation but it is all too obvious it is about vanity and ego. 

The amount of money they spend on killing one lion would buy 5-7 proper RDP houses for 5 - 7 poverty stricken families who currently live in metal shacks . The money they spend on killing one lion would buy over 4000 50kg sacks of the African staple 'mealie meal' (aka 'pap) which would feed entire 'poor' villages for over a year

Not to mention that the equivalent of what they spend to kill one lion is in the region of 20 years salary for some people in Africa. Oh wait, you are white, what would you know about struggling to live on 2,500 rand a month if lucky. Ask your domestic help what they earn, then go look at the price of food in Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths....

These hunters claim 'local communities profit' from the trophy hunters. Untrue. Eco tourism provides year round work whilst hunting does not. Eco tourism provides many more employment opportunities , hunting does not.

The only communities really supported by hunting is the Community Of The Wealthy Game Farm Owners who grow wealthier and wealthier whilst the poor locals are paid a pittance and struggle daily, living in conditions most of us would refuse to house our dogs in. Do you still want to say this is fine and acceptable Christine? For your information im not stupid! I dont need to look at these " videos" its a waste if my time I know wats going on with hunting an things. My stepdad is in the hunting business and hunts with americans. How recent is ur " studies" on these things? I find it acceptable because I know whats right and wrong about hunting!!! I have a lot to back me up...I just wont bother because I waste my breath like u wasting urs!
